Shelley James has had the honor of performing with Sheila E., Pete Escovedo, and Jonathan Butler. For nearly two years she has been a worship leader at In His Presence Church in Woodland Hills, CA. Her tone and skill are the mark of perfection for anyone who hears her. Shelley grew up the youngest in a musical family, singing and performing with them from the age of 4. They toured western Canada, performing full time for months at a time. Over the years, her ear absorbed her parents Carpenters and her older brother's classic rock of Pink Floyd, ELO, and Heart. Shelley had a passion to play out live and started a trio with two friends after college. She learned the ropes of good old fashioned gigging, booking the band all over the Northwest at clubs like the Brasserie Montmartre, the Buffalo Gap, and at Festivals like Bumbershoot, and Folklife. She also produced their CD. Shelley grew into a confident band-leader, musician, and performer. Shelley has fronted her own group "Shelley James musicbox" since 1995. She has also been a part of the disco band "Satin Love Orchestra" from 1997-2004 and the Pink Floyd tribute group "The Floydian Slips" from 1998-2004. Her band Shelley James musicbox opened the MacDonald Theatre, headlined the Benefit for Buckley from 2001-2003, and Cycle Oregon in 1998. Her following now extends from Western Canada to Southern California. She was given the KRVM radio Community Service Award for her contributions to the Eugene, Oregon arts scene by the president of the station. Now based in Los Angeles, she has been honored to perform with Sheila E., Pete Escovedo, Will Kennedy, and Jonathan Butler. |
